Board of Directors

The following are the current board members of the Utah Chapter of the USGBC:

Dan Ball

Dan is a Masters of City and Metropolitan Planning student at the University of Utah. His aspirations, passion, and research include the study of healthy communities, public spaces, and green building. He acts as the student liaison between the chapter and students across the state.

Tim Hofheins

Tim is a LEED AP and a Sr. Direct Account Manager for Trane. He has expertise with energy efficient HVAC applications including retrofits and maintenance programs. Tim is a lifetime resident of Utah and has been affiliated with the local chapter since 2006.

Chamonix Larsen

Chamonix serves in a position at the State of Utah as an Energy Program Director for the State Building Energy Efficiency Program. Prior to working at the State she worked at AMD Architecture, a local firm dedicated to green design. Chamonix holds a Master of Architecture Degree from the University of Utah.

Tom Richter

Tom is the Master Franchise owner in Utah for JAN-PRO Cleaning Systems, which is in the Commercial cleaning business. JAN-PRO International is currently ranked as the #1 Fastest Growing franchise. Tom also is the owner the SaniGLAZE franchise here is Utah. SaniGLAZE is unique tile and grout restoration process. The SaniGLAZE process can contribute points to a project seeking LEED certification. Tom has been on several Non-Profit Boards and is anxious to use those skills to help take the USGBC Board to a new level. Tom has lived in Utah for 30 years.

Jörg Rügemer, Dipl.-Ing. M.Arch. Architect AKNW, Assistant Professor

Jörg Rügemer graduated with a master’s degree of architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture in Los Angeles. Additional studies include his architectural diploma at the University of Applied Sciences in Cologne, Germany, as well as meteorology at the University of Cologne. Mr. Rügemer is a licensed architect in Germany and Europe. He has taught in Germany at the University of Karlsruhe, as well as the Brandenburg University of Technology, where he was the chair of Architectural Design and CAD. Other assignments include Florida International University in Miami, where he served as the Director for Digital Design. He now teaches sustainable architecture and urban design theory at the College of Architecture and Planning, at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City. Jörg Rügemer has received numerous awards and scholarships; exhibitions include displays at the BEA International Gallery in Miami, the Reiss-Engelhorn-Museum in Mannheim, Germany, the Art Museum of Western Virginia, the Bauhaus University Weimar, and the 2001 Forum of Current Architecture in Cologne, both Germany. Among other things, Jörg Rügemer’s portfolio includes 12 placements in international competitions, 3 built projects, several scholarly publications, and many international lectures on sustainable architectural and urban design, design strategies, and virtual design.

As a professional architect, Jörg Rügemer has worked with firms like Anshen + Allen Architects, San Francisco, Frank O. Gehry and Associates, Santa Monica, and Bothe Richter Teherani Architects, Hamburg, before he started his own architectural firm in Berlin. His latest built project, the case study of a contemporary, sustainable discount superstore, was distinguished with several German architectural awards and gets widely published in Europe.

Donald R. Sanborn

Donald is a commercial and industrial real estate developer with projects completed in California, Nevada and Utah. His most recent project completed in 2001 is a four building Office Park of 190,000 sq ft in Lindon, Utah. He served as president of the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks (NAIOP) in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1992/93. Donald completed two tours of duty in Viet Nam as a Naval helicopter pilot, and currently resides in Midway, Utah, with his wife, Linda.
