Chapter Officers

David Engel, Chair

David is the Quality Control Manager for CCI Mechanical, Inc.  David has the responsibility of ensuring the quality and efficiency of CCI’s mechanical system’s design and installation as well as ensuring that the systems are properly commissioned and turned over to customers in a finely tuned and professional manner.  Mr. Engel promotes energy efficiency and the application of environmental principles for all CCI Mechanical projects. David earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Kansas in 1990 and became a LEED accredited professional in 2003

Chamonix Larsen, Vice Chair

Chamonix Larsen, LEED AP, Assoc. AIA.  Chamonix joined State of Utah Division of Facility and Construction Management in 2007 as an Energy Program Director.  Major parts of her work with the State include implementation of the State's High Performance Building Standards, State facility energy performanceChamonix Larsen benchmarking, policy and program research related to energy, integrating utility incentive programs, and working on the Advanced Building Strategies for Energy Task Force in partnership with the National Governor's Association.  Chamonix is a LEED accredited professional and has background in sustainable architecture. She practiced at the local green design firm, AMD Architecture, for five years prior to working for the State of Utah. 
 
She is also affiliated with several community organizations including the AIA, and the local chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council where she serves on the Board of Directors and the Advocacy Committee.  She is a past chapter Vice Chairperson and participated with USGBC as the Residential Green Building Advocate representing Utah.  She has lectured for private companies and several organizations such as the League of Cities and Towns, the Utah Chapter of the AIA, the Green Building Center, the Associated Building Contractors, the University of Utah College of Architecture and Planning, the National Association of State Facilities Administrators, and the Salt Lake Sustainable Building Conference. Her commitment to education has lead her to the EECTA program (Educating Elementary Children Through Architecture) as a volunteer teacher, and to participate in the AWE+SUM and the Expanding Your Horizons after school camps aimed at promoting the future of women in the professional workforce. 

Rachel David, Secretary

Rachel specializes in architectural conservation and sustainability with Cooper Roberts Simonsen Associates (CRSA) and has coordinated documentation for LEED certification of multiple projects. She continually oversees LEED projects— with some aspiring for LEED Gold and Platinum certifications—as well as other green projects. Rachel is experienced in building evaluations for historic structures, adaptive use and feasibility studies, and is a proponent for sustainability through structure reuse. She is a LEED Accredited Professional with a bachelor’s degree in Architectural Studies from the University of Utah.

Jörg Rügemer, Treasurer

Jörg Rügemer graduated with a master’s degree of architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture in Los Angeles. Additional studies include his architectural diploma at the University of Applied Sciences in Cologne, Germany, as well as meteorology at the University of Cologne. Mr. Rügemer is a licensed architect in Germany and Europe. He has taught in Germany at the University of Karlsruhe, as well as the Brandenburg University of Technology, where he was the chair of Architectural Design and CAD. Other assignments include Florida International University in Miami, where he served as the Director for Digital Design. He now teaches sustainable architecture and urban design theory at the College of Architecture and Planning, at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City. Jörg Rügemer has received numerous awards and scholarships; exhibitions include displays at the BEA International Gallery in Miami, the Reiss-Engelhorn-Museum in Mannheim, Germany, the Art Museum of Western Virginia, the Bauhaus University Weimar, and the 2001 Forum of Current Architecture in Cologne, both Germany. Among other things, Jörg Rügemer’s portfolio includes 12 placements in international competitions, 3 built projects, several scholarly publications, and many international lectures on sustainable architectural and urban design, design strategies, and virtual design.

As a professional architect, Jörg Rügemer has worked with firms like Anshen + Allen Architects, San Francisco, Frank O. Gehry and Associates, Santa Monica, and Bothe Richter Teherani Architects, Hamburg, before he started his own architectural firm in Berlin. His latest built project, the case study of a contemporary, sustainable discount superstore, was distinguished with several German architectural awards and gets widely published in Europe.
